RJ is an artist and registered architect living in Shanghai. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2009 with a bachelors degree in fine art (BFA) with a sculpture focus. In 2013 he graduated from Yale University with his Masters in Architecture (M. Arch). In 2013 RJ moved to China, first living in Beijing before moving to Shanghai in 2017. RJ’s sculpture is concerned with the contact between concept and mystery.
RJ works in sculpture, digital media and drawing to make art shaped by the interaction of technology and place. With formal education in sculpture and conceptual art, RJ’s practice is expanded by his professional work as a practicing architect. The conflict and compatibility between these two offer alternative ways to make forms for the evolving present.
