Cecilia Jansson
Sweden
Jansson is known for her hand- crafted porcelain sculptures as well as her large scale embroidery.
She is currently holding a residency at Sculpture Space NYC, while her previous residencies include ones at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel, Shanghai and The Pottery Workshop, Jingdeshen.
Of her work Jansson says, “The idea that the color or shape of your body would define your identity is ridiculous. This basic need to label people deserves investigating. I express myself mainly through drawing and sculpture, often utilizing time-consuming techniques like hand-building porcelain, welding or silk stitching… The things I already know become tools for exploring things of which I have no knowledge.”
