In recent years, the artist Wu Yifei has been focusing on experimenting and exploring the combination of cutting-edge 3D printing technology with ready-made objects in his installation sculptures. The "Inorganic Botany · Symbiosis" series represents his research and creative endeavor in the field of "inorganic botany," which he pioneered through in-depth study and contemplation of botany, utilizing 3D graphics software and 3D printing technology. Inorganic botany refers to the discipline that classifies and studies programmable digital entities that mimic plants. The artist integrates new and traditional media, using 3D printing technology to transform his imaginative "inorganic botany" into reality.
Influenced by Kandinsky's abstract expression theory of "point, line, plane," Wu Yifei abstracts the organ structure and cellular arrangement of plants into block-like representations, thus enriching the characteristics and aesthetic value of inorganic botany. The artist employs inorganic plants to create a sense of space-time illusion, thereby blurring the audience's perception of time. By observing microscopic entities (from the perspective of macroeconomic and social systems), the artist connects artistic creation with history and sociology. Through industrial products from different eras, Wu Yifei contemplates the profound impact of technology on changing human lifestyles and habits, reflecting the collective essence of an era.
